MIIT leaked documents that unveiled an updated version of Nio ES8 on the NT 2.0 platform. The MIIT must approve all vehicles produced in China before going into production. As a result, we have access to the paperwork and images that Nio filed for the lidar-equipped ES8 2023.

The updated ES8, seen undercover on multiple occasions, will be officially unveiled on December 24 during Nio Day in Hefei. The 2023 NIO ES8 electric SUV, like the Nio ET7, ES7/EL7, and Nio ET5, is equipped with a lidar on the top of the roof and high-definition cameras on the sides as part of its NT2.0 platform. Since the ADAS components are on par with the ET7 and ES7, it may be assumed that NIO Aquila Super Sensing (NAD) will be included (NIO Autonomous Driving).

Compared to 2018's ES8 NT1, the size and overall look have been tweaked and refined. The nose looks like the ES7, another SUV built on the NT2 platform (EL7). There will only be seating for six people inside (the current ES8 has a seven-seat version, but the new ES8 cancels it).

Since the old ES8 weighed just 2460 kg at the curb, the new one is noticeably heavier by 100 kilograms. There is more power now, so don't worry.

The new vehicle will have rims in three diameters: 20, 21, and 22 inches. These tires are available in 255/50 R20, 265/45 R21, and 265/40 R22 sizes.

Powered by a pair of motors totaling 480 kW (640 horsepower), 4WD will be standard on this vehicle. The output from the front engine is 180 kW, while the output from the rear engine is 300 kW.

The base model of the ES8 NT1 has a power output of 440 kW. Nio's conventional 75 kWh or 100 kWh NMC battery will power the new NIO ES8 electric SUV, with a future upgrade to a semi-solid battery in the works. According to Nio's MIIT application, the battery manufacturer now has the CABL and CATL certifications.

A trailer or camper trailer weighing up to 2,000 kg can be towed behind the car with the help of the optional electronic tow bar, much like the NIO ES7 (EL7).

On December 24 in Hefei, China, several new automobiles will be unveiled alongside the NIO ES8 2023. Nio CEO William Li has said that there will be a second new model, and recent spy photos suggest that it will be a Nio ET5 electric car.

Nio's NT1.0 platform is also used for the Nio ES6, a midsize SUV, and the Nio EC6, a crossover. In China, the NT1 series is also known as the 866 series. Within the first half of 2023, the final two models will receive the NT 2.0 platform update.

Nio is set to launch its first EU Nio House in Berlin on December 17. In October, Nio debuted in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden. The second wave of Nio's worldwide expansion includes Australia, France, Italy, Austria, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, and the United States as the company works toward its goal of 25 nations by 2025. Although it will be challenging, Nio CEO William Li has announced that the company plans to enter the US market in 2025. Nio has recently secured a ten-year lease at its San Jose, California, headquarters.

To put it simply, JAC will contract-manufacture Nio ES8. Nio's initial factory, located in Hefei and operated by JAC, uses MIIT filling. The first Nio ES8s will be shipped out in the first half of 2023.
