The Volvo EX90 gives you the information you need at the right time

Volvo EX90

The new Volvo EX90 electric SUV will be unveiled on November 9. The electric car includes many new technological solutions and functions, such as a network of external sensors, which should make driving safer.

Volvo Cars wishes to avoid a situation where the car's numerous functions distract the driver. As a result, the Volvo EX90 electric SUV includes a new infotainment system that ensures the driver receives relevant information at the right time via a contextual user interface.

The system must, among other things, make the driver's transition from manual to assisted driving simple and intuitive. Simultaneously, the car's screens will show the driver what is required in a given situation based on what the electric vehicle perceives in its surroundings. In addition to the control panel and other functions that the driver frequently uses, a large central screen provides quick access to navigation, media, and the telephone.

A unique context menu bar will suggest the actions most relevant to the specific situation, depending on whether the driver is driving, parking, or on a phone call.

A second, smaller screen directly in front of the steering wheel displays more driving-relevant information such as route directions, speed, and battery range. It is also where the car contextualizes the transition from one driving mode to another, making it clear what can be expected of the vehicle - and what the driver can expect from the car.

"It's about providing the appropriate information at the appropriate time." We want the driving experience to be focused, straightforward, and secure. "Because the car understands its surroundings and you better than ever before, we can create an even safer situation by reducing distraction and an excessive amount of information," says Volvo Cars' Head of UX, Thomas Stovicek.

The electric car gains a better understanding of the driver and its surroundings by combining external and internal sensors with in-house developed software. The goal is for the car to read the situation and provide contextual information based on what it detects in its surroundings.

The car can proactively react to what is going on around it thanks to external sensors that provide a 360-degree view of the car's surroundings, even when assisted driving is turned off. When assisted driving is enabled, the vehicle helps the driver while driving. The Volvo EX90 electric car will notify the driver of what it sees and how it reacts to information. It will be able to assist the driver in changing lanes in addition to providing steering assistance and maintaining a constant speed.

The Volvo EX90 electric SUV is outfitted with cutting-edge safety technology that is ready for unsupervised autonomous driving, allowing the car to drive even if this technology still needs to be approved.
