Photovoltaic systems, electric cars and home electricity storage systems complement each other perfectly. Solarwatt from Dresden has perfected the system together with BMW. As part of its immediate climate protection program, the federal government is considering introducing a requirement for solar roofs on new private and commercial buildings in Germany. Especially since the electricity demand will grow strongly in the coming years due to the increasing number of electric cars.
Solarwatt, manufacturer of PV modules and storage batteries from Dresden, presented the new generation of modular home electricity storage, which was created in two years of development work and cooperation with BMW. The electricity storage device called "Battery Flex AC-1", which in its smallest size has a capacity of 4.8-kilowatt-hours and an output of 1.5 kilowatts, uses new cells from the Chinese manufacturer CATL. The accumulators are installed by the Webasto automotive supplier.
At the Schierling plant, Webasto produces the cell modules for the new electricity storage systems that Solarwatt has developed together with BMW. BMW buys lithium-ion cells for this from the Chinese manufacturer CATL. Solarwatt has been working on photovoltaics systems for ten years.
The Battery Flex home storage system uses the same battery cells as electric cars from BMW. The cell used brings a good mix of power and capacity, which we make usable for stationary electricity storage with our specific Solarwatt know-how in the field of battery management systems. It can therefore cover both areas very well: an application in an electric car and a home storage system.
A car cell needs a high power density and is perfect with few cycles. A home storage system needs cells for many charging cycles and the lowest possible power density. The BMW cell can cover both well.
Solarwatt developed the new, modularly expandable home storage system together with BMW. Inside the compact housing are new battery cells, which are also used in the Mini Cooper SE, among other things.
The delivery of the Battery Flex electricity storage system from Solarwatt begins in autumn. @via Solarwatt.
