If you're looking for a vehicle that can take you on any adventure, you might want to check out the Skoda Roadiaq. This is not your typical SUV but a unique electric camper that was designed and built by students from the Skoda Academy in the Czech Republic.
The Skoda Roadiaq is based on the Skoda Enyaq iV, the brand's first all-electric SUV. However, the students transformed it into a rugged and versatile camper that can accommodate up to four people and offer them all the comforts of home.
The project involved 31 students from different fields of study, such as design, engineering, and marketing. They worked on the Skoda Roadiaq for eight months under the guidance of experienced mentors from Skoda. The result is a stunning vehicle showcasing the young talents' creativity and skills.
What Makes the Skoda Roadiaq Special?
The Skoda Roadiaq is more than just a modified Skoda Enyaq iV. It has a new bodywork with a longer wheelbase, higher ground clearance, and a distinctive rear section. The students also added some off-road elements, such as a front winch, a roof rack, a spare wheel, and LED spotlights.
The exterior design of the Skoda Roadiaq is inspired by nature and adventure. The students chose green metallic paint with copper accents to create a contrast between the natural and technological aspects of the vehicle. The Skoda logo on the front grille is also illuminated, as well as the name Roadiaq on the tailgate.
The interior of the Skoda Roadiaq is equally impressive. The students used high-quality materials, such as leather, Alcantara, and wood, to create a cozy and luxurious atmosphere. The seats are upholstered in brown leather with green stitching, while the dashboard and door panels are covered in Alcantara with copper details.
The Skoda Roadiaq also offers plenty of space and functionality for camping enthusiasts. The rear seats can be folded down to create a large sleeping area, which can be accessed through a sliding door on the side. The vehicle also has a kitchenette with a sink, a stove, and a fridge, as well as a retractable table and chairs. There is even a shower on the back of the vehicle, which can be used with an external water tank.
How Does the Skoda Roadiaq Perform?
The Skoda Roadiaq is not only stylish and comfortable but also powerful and efficient. It is powered by an electric motor that delivers 150 kW (204 hp) and 310 Nm (228 lb-ft) of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 160 km/h (99 mph).
The electric motor is fed by an 82 kWh battery pack that provides a range of up to 520 km (323 miles) on a single charge. The battery can be recharged using various methods, such as AC or DC charging stations or regenerative braking. The vehicle also has an intelligent energy management system that optimizes the power consumption according to the driving conditions.
The Skoda Roadiaq is also equipped with several advanced technologies that enhance its safety and convenience. A digital cockpit displays all the relevant information on a 13-inch touchscreen. It also has a head-up display that projects key data onto the windshield. The vehicle also supports wireless connectivity via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and voice control via Amazon Alexa.
The Skoda Roadiaq also has several driver assistance systems that help prevent accidents or mitigate their consequences. It has adaptive cruise control, lane assist, blind spot detection, park assist, rearview camera, and emergency call. It also has an air suspension system that adjusts the ride height according to the terrain.
When Will the Skoda Roadiaq Be Available?
The Skoda Roadiaq is not intended for mass production but rather as a showcase of what the students from the Skoda Academy can achieve. However, some of its features or design elements could inspire future models from the brand.
The Skoda Roadiaq is one of the most innovative and exciting projects from the Skoda Academy, which was established in 2013 to provide vocational training for young people interested in working for Skoda. The academy offers various courses in technical and commercial fields and opportunities for practical experience and international exchange.
The Skoda Roadiaq is the eighth student car from the academy, following previous models such as the Skoda Mountiaq (a pickup based on the Skoda Kodiaq), the Skoda Sunroq (a convertible based on the Skoda Karoq), and the Skoda Element (an electric buggy based on the Skoda Citigo). The student cars are a testament to the creativity and talent of the next generation of Skoda employees.
The Skoda Roadiaq is a remarkable vehicle that combines the best of both worlds: an electric SUV's performance and efficiency and the camper's comfort and functionality. It is a vehicle that can take you on any adventure, whether it's on the road or off the grid. It is a vehicle that reflects the spirit and vision of Skoda: Simply Clever.
