Toyota will make large vans for Stellantis

Toyota will make large vans for Stellantis

Stellantis and Toyota have taken their partnership concerning light commercial vehicles (LCVs), a market in which Toyota does not currently offer any of its models, to the next level. They are now working together on vans of a smaller size (Proace City) and a medium size (Proace), and they will work together on a van of an even greater size. It will take the place of the Citroen Jumper, Peugeot Boxer, Fiat Ducato, and Opel Movano models currently in production.

The new van model, for which we do not yet have a name, will be of a new generation and contain a diesel engine and an electric variant. We do not yet know what the new model will be called. It will be the same as currently, except that the Stellantis full-size vans will not have any Toyota marking. The production will take place in Gliwice, located in Poland, as well as in Atessa (Italy). There is nothing else that we are aware of.

The selection offered by Toyota will expand as a result. In addition to the vans that both Toyota and Stellantis manufacture, Toyota manufactures three other models that are not shared with Stellantis. These models are the commercial derivatives (N1) of the Toyota Land Cruiser, Hilux, and Toyota Yaris. Stellantis manufactures the vans that both Toyota and Stellantis manufacture. On the other hand, the Stellantis brands each have their variations, some of which are shared with other companies and others sold just by one of the companies.

Whatever it ends up being called, the new vehicle will fill the void left by the Toyota Hiace in the Toyota Professional lineup. The Toyota Hiace has been in its sixth iteration (H300) since 2019 but has not been seen in Europe since then. Therefore, the most cost-effective option for Toyota is collaborating with Stellantis rather than carrying out additional engineering work on the Hiace, which is offered in markets in Southeast Asia, Oceania, and some nations in Latin America.

The engines, which include two gasoline engines (2.7 L4 2TR-FE and 3.5 V6 7GR-FKS) and a diesel engine (2.8 L4 1GF-FTV), might be homologated, but there is no electric version, nor is one planned to be developed soon. What are the advantages for Toyota of being able to sell a vehicle that has been rebranded by one of its partners? Its average of CO 2 concerning the European Union falls, permitting it to continue selling commercial Toyota Land Cruisers and Toyota Hilux without the average straying too far from what was acceptable.

Within the next two years, consumers will be able to purchase the new huge van from Stellantis that has Toyota shields. The next version will initially be unveiled by Stellantis, followed by Toyota's turn to do the same. There are a variety of lengths available for the current generation: the third (2006-present), as well as three various wheelbases and three different roof heights for the Van/Combi and chassis-cab variants of any bodywork that you can think of.
