Toyota Urban: A Sleek, Spacious, and High-Performance Electric Compact SUV

Toyota Urban

Toyota, one of the world’s leading automakers, has unveiled a new concept vehicle at the Munich Motor Show. The Toyota Urban SUV Concept is a compact crossover that previews a new electric model for the European market. The concept combines a sleek design, a spacious interior, and a high-performance powertrain to offer a versatile and sustainable mobility solution for urban dwellers.

Design: A Modern and Rugged Crossover

The Toyota Urban SUV Concept is based on Toyota’s e-TNGA platform, which allows for various configurations of battery size, electric motor power, and vehicle dimensions. The concept has a length of 4,180 mm, a width of 1,765 mm, and a height of 1,620 mm, making it ideal for navigating narrow streets and tight parking spaces. The concept also has a wheelbase of 2,640 mm, which provides ample room for passengers and cargo.

The exterior design of the Urban SUV Concept is inspired by the theme of “functional beauty”. The concept features a distinctive front fascia with a large grille, LED headlights, and a Toyota logo that illuminates when the vehicle is switched on. The side profile showcases a dynamic character line that runs from the front to the rear, expressing a sense of movement and presence. The concept also has 20-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, and a panoramic glass roof that can be opened for a more airy cabin.

The rear of the Toyota Urban SUV Concept is characterized by a wide and muscular stance, with LED taillights, a spoiler, and a skid plate. The concept also has a unique tailgate that can be opened in two ways: either as a conventional hatch or as a split gate that can be folded down to create a loading ramp. This feature enhances the practicality and versatility of the concept, as it can accommodate various types of cargo and equipment.

Interior: A Spacious and Customizable Cabin

The interior of the Urban SUV Concept is designed to offer a comfortable and convenient driving experience. The concept has a minimalist and futuristic dashboard with a digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a head-up display. The concept also has a wireless charging pad, a multifunction steering wheel, and a rotary gear selector.

The concept can seat up to five people, with leather seats with heating and ventilation functions. The front passenger seat can be folded or removed completely, while the rear seats can be folded flat or reclined for extra comfort. The concept also has a rail system, allowing various accessories and storage options, such as a table, a bike rack, or a pet carrier.

The concept also features a range of advanced safety and driver assistance systems, such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, and a 360-degree camera. The concept also has a smart parking assist function, automatically parking the vehicle in parallel or perpendicular spaces.

Powertrain: A High-Performance and Efficient Electric Motor

The Toyota Urban SUV Concept is powered by a single electric motor that delivers 150 kW (201 hp) of power and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque. The motor is paired with a 55 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which provides a range of up to 400 km (249 miles) on a single charge. The concept also supports fast charging, which can replenish 80% of the battery in 30 minutes.

The concept also has a four-wheel drive system, which can distribute the torque between the front and rear axles depending on the driving conditions. The concept also has a selectable drive mode function that adjusts the power output, steering response, and suspension settings. The concept has four modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, and Off-Road.

Conclusion: A Promising Preview of a New Electric Model

The Urban SUV Concept is a preview of a new electric compact SUV that Toyota plans to launch in Europe in 2023. The concept showcases Toyota’s vision of a versatile and sustainable mobility solution for urban customers who value design, space, and performance. The concept demonstrates Toyota’s commitment to electrifying its lineup and reducing its environmental impact.

The Urban SUV Concept is one of the many electric vehicles Toyota is developing for the global market. Toyota aims to sell 5.5 million electrified vehicles by 2025, including 2 million battery-electric and fuel-cell vehicles. Toyota also plans to introduce 15 new battery-electric models by 2025, including 10 that will be available globally.

Toyota’s Urban SUV Concept is a sign of the growing popularity and potential of the European electric compact SUV segment. According to a report by Allied Market Research, the global electric SUV market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 32.5% from 2020 to 2030, reaching $253.9 billion by 2030. Europe is expected to be one of the leading regions in market share and growth due to the increasing demand for eco-friendly vehicles, supportive government policies and incentives, and major automakers and suppliers.

The Urban SUV Concept is not the only electric compact SUV that will compete in the European market. Other models already available or launched soon include the Hyundai Kona Electric, the Kia e-Niro, the Peugeot e-2008, the Renault Captur E-Tech, the Volkswagen ID.4, and the Volvo XC40 Recharge. These models offer different features, specifications, and prices, but they all aim to provide a practical and attractive alternative to conventional gasoline and diesel vehicles.

The Urban SUV Concept is a promising preview of what Toyota offers in the electric compact SUV segment. The concept combines a modern and rugged design, a spacious and customizable interior, and a high-performance and efficient powertrain to offer a versatile and sustainable mobility solution for urban dwellers. The concept also showcases Toyota’s vision of a functional beauty, which harmoniously blends form and function. The concept is expected to be well-received by European customers, who are looking for a new electric model that can meet their needs and preferences.

"Keep in mind that the Toyota Urban's technical data are what I think would be possible and not necessarily the real ones."
