Subaru Solterra EV Gains Tesla Supercharging Access Through SubaruConnect

Subaru Solterra EV Gains Tesla Supercharging Access Through SubaruConnect

Brand

  • Subaru

Subaru just made owning a Solterra EV more practical for North American drivers. Starting with the 2026 Solterra, every model now includes access to more than 25,000 Tesla Superchargers through the SubaruConnect app. This move brings Subaru closer to the electric mainstream and fixes one of the Solterra’s biggest early weaknesses: charging convenience.

Expanded Charging Network for Solterra EV Owners

Until now, Subaru Solterra drivers relied mostly on non-Tesla public charging networks, which often have fewer locations and slower charging speeds. That changes with Subaru’s adoption of the North American Charging Standard (NACS), the same connector used by Tesla.

Subaru’s announcement means:

  • 2026 Solterra models include an integrated NACS port.
  • Owners of 2023–2025 Solterra models can buy a Genuine Subaru Fast Charging Adapter to access Tesla Superchargers.
  • The adapter will be available soon through Subaru retailers.

The company recommends using the official Subaru adapter for safety and consistent performance. That’s an important move to maintain warranty coverage and charging reliability.

Plug & Charge Comes to Subaru EVs

For the first time, Subaru is introducing Plug & Charge functionality. This system lets Solterra owners start charging without swiping a card or using a phone. The charger recognizes the vehicle automatically through the SubaruConnect app and bills the linked account.

Plug & Charge functionality:

  • Works automatically when a SubaruConnect payment profile is active.
  • Simplifies road trips by reducing setup time at public chargers.
  • Is compatible with all 2026 Solterra models and select Tesla Superchargers.

For drivers using the SubaruConnect app, finding and paying for charging is now much faster. The app also lets owners:

  • Search for charging stations through the Find Stations Map.
  • View real-time charger availability.
  • Set up payment methods for supported networks.

Faster, Smarter Charging with Preconditioning

The 2026 Subaru Solterra EV also introduces battery preconditioning—a smart feature that improves fast-charging performance, especially in cold weather. When navigating to a DC fast charger, the car can automatically warm up the battery to the ideal temperature for quick charging.

This system can charge the Solterra from 0 to 80% in about 28 minutes, even in winter conditions. Drivers can also start preconditioning manually through the touchscreen interface.

Key specs for the 2026 Solterra:

SpecificationDetail
Max RangeUp to 288 miles (EPA estimate)
Charging Speed0–80% in about 28 minutes
Charging PortNACS (Tesla-compatible)
Battery PreconditioningStandard on all trims
Supercharger AccessOver 25,000 stations across North America

This update makes the Solterra one of the most charging-friendly electric SUVs available under $50,000 USD.

Adapting for Earlier Solterra Models

Subaru hasn’t left early adopters behind. Owners of 2023–2025 models will soon be able to purchase a Fast Charging Adapter (NACS) to access Tesla Superchargers. Pricing hasn’t been announced, but similar adapters from other brands retail around $150–$250 USD.

Once available, the adapter will give earlier Solterra models access to thousands of DC fast chargers, including Tesla’s expanding network. Subaru will contact registered owners directly when adapter shipments begin.

Strengthening Subaru’s EV Strategy

Subaru entered the EV market cautiously with the Solterra. It shares its platform with the Toyota bZ, but until now, its charging network options were limited. By adopting Tesla’s NACS standard, Subaru joins Ford, GM, Rivian, and several others in standardizing around Tesla’s plug. This helps reduce range anxiety and builds consumer confidence in Subaru’s electrification efforts.

The 2026 Subaru Solterra EV isn’t just about more charging options—it’s about smarter integration. With SubaruConnect, drivers gain real-time data, fast payment, and seamless charger access, making EV ownership simpler.

Why Tesla Supercharging Access Matters

Tesla’s Supercharger network remains the largest and most reliable fast-charging system in North America. With more than 25,000 active chargers, it offers better uptime and location density than most competitors. For Subaru owners, that means shorter waits and faster road trips.

The addition of Supercharger access gives Subaru a major competitive boost. Many shoppers previously avoided the Solterra due to charging limitations. Now, Subaru offers:

  • Broader charging coverage.
  • Plug & Charge simplicity.
  • Faster cold-weather charging.
  • Improved EV resale value.

Availability and Rollout

  • 2026 Subaru Solterra EV models with built-in NACS ports arrive at retailers nationwide this fall.
  • Fast Charging Adapters for earlier Solterra models will follow later in the year.
  • SubaruConnect app updates are already live, supporting charger lookup and payment setup.

This update positions Subaru as a more serious player in the electric SUV segment. While it still trails Tesla and Hyundai in battery efficiency, the Solterra’s newfound charging flexibility significantly strengthens its appeal.
