RIZON e18L: Daimler’s First All-Electric Truck Hits the Road in Canada

RIZON e18L truck

In a significant advancement for sustainable construction, RIZON, Daimler Truck's all-electric brand, has delivered its first e18L electric dump truck in Canada. This vehicle has been handed over to Villamar Construction, a custom home-building company based in Victoria, British Columbia. This milestone signifies a pivotal shift towards zero-emission commercial vehicles in the Canadian construction industry.

Villamar Construction Leads the Charge

Villamar Construction, renowned for its commitment to innovative and sustainable building practices, has integrated the RIZON e18L into its fleet. This all-electric dump truck will be instrumental in their custom home-building projects, aligning with their dedication to reducing environmental impact.

Expansion of RIZON's Electric Fleet in Canada

Following this initial delivery, RIZON plans to distribute an additional 18 e18L units across British Columbia and Quebec in the coming weeks. These vehicles, equipped with various body configurations such as dry boxes, service bodies, and landscape dumps, will serve a diverse clientele, including:

  • Municipalities: Enhancing public service operations with eco-friendly transportation solutions.
  • Rental and Leasing Providers: Offering sustainable options for businesses seeking temporary vehicle solutions.
  • Freight and Logistics Companies: Reducing carbon footprints in supply chain operations.

Government Incentives Bolster Adoption

The Canadian government's Incentives for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Zero-Emission Vehicles (iMHZEV) program plays a crucial role in promoting the adoption of electric commercial vehicles. Under this program, each RIZON truck qualifies for approximately $75,000 USD at the point of sale. Additional provincial incentives further enhance the financial viability of transitioning to electric fleets.

RIZON's Growing Dealer Network

To support the deployment and maintenance of its electric vehicles, RIZON has established a robust dealer network across Canada, including locations in:

  • British Columbia
  • Ontario
  • Quebec

This network ensures that customers have access to expert sales representatives, charging infrastructure guidance, and comprehensive financing options.

Technical Specifications of the RIZON e18L

The RIZON e18L is engineered to meet the rigorous demands of medium-duty commercial applications. Key features include:

  • Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW): 18,850 pounds
  • Range: Up to 160 miles on a single charge, depending on configuration and usage
  • Charging Compatibility:
    • DC Fast Charging (CCS1): Enables rapid charging for minimal downtime
    • Level 2 AC Charging (J1772): Offers flexibility for various charging scenarios
  • Electric Power Take-Off (ePTO): Supports specialized equipment such as hydraulic pumps and reefer belt drives

Advanced Safety Features

Safety remains a paramount focus in the design of the RIZON e18L. The truck is equipped with advanced passive and active safety systems, including:

  • Active Brake Assist: Automatically detects and responds to potential collisions
  • Active Side Guard Assist: Monitors blind spots to prevent side collisions

These features are designed to protect drivers, passengers, and the communities in which they operate.

Optimized for Canadian Climates

Understanding the challenges posed by Canada's diverse climate, the RIZON e18L incorporates features tailored for cold-weather operations:

  • Electric Preconditioning: Prepares the battery to optimal operating temperatures before use, enhancing performance in low temperatures
  • Heated Components: Includes heated seats, steering wheel, and windshield to ensure driver comfort during harsh winters
