Genesis will expand in Europe with three electric vehicles

By Car Division, 22 August, 2021

Hyundai is expanding its Genesis premium brand to Europe once more, following its success in Asia and the United States. A previous attempt had failed a few years back. So, in the UK, Germany, and Switzerland, sales of South Korean vehicles will begin this summer. In addition, there are various entirely electric cars available in addition to traditional combustion engines.

Genesis promises its European customers "excellent" customer service, including complete assistance and personal interaction, in addition to high-quality, comfortable, and powerful cars. The Genesis company distributes its products online and through "Genesis Studios" in desirable city locations, with the latter being the first to launch in London, Munich, and Zurich. The emphasis is also on direct delivery to the customer's house or business; Genesis can even pick up the vehicle if required.

Genesis will begin selling the nearly five-meter-long G80 sedan and its SUV counterpart GV80 in Europe in June, followed by the smaller G70 and GV70 models shortly after. In 2021 we will also see the debut of an electric car series explicitly developed for Europe. The Electrified G80, Genesis's first production electric vehicle, was launched recently and available in Europe. In addition, two more electric cars are scheduled for release in 2021, one of which will be built on a platform specifically developed for battery-powered vehicles, most likely Hyundai's Electric-Global Modular Platform ( E-GMP ).

As the name implies, Genesis's first electric vehicle is an electric version of the G80 luxury sedan, previously exclusively available with a combustion engine. The Electrified G80 should wow with its elegance, opulence, and refined, dynamic driving manners. The standard all-wheel-drive system produces 272 kW / 370 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque with a 136 kW motor at the front and rear. The sprint from zero to one hundred kilometres per hour takes 4.9 seconds. You can switch between four-wheel and two-wheel drive as needed for the economy.

According to the NEDC standard, which is about to expire in many countries, the range of the Electrified G80 is over 500 kilometres. The electric vehicle may be charged using an 800-volt system with a peak power of 350 kW; using appropriate public charging stations; the battery pack should be able to be charged to 80% in 22 minutes. The Genesis Electrified G80, like Hyundai's recently released first electric car based on the E-GMP architecture, the Ioniq 5, features bidirectional charging capability that can be utilized to electrical power items such as laptops.

To remind you, all Ioniq 5 electric cars come standard with an automated emergency braking system that includes pedestrian recognition, front collision warning, lane departure warning, and cruise control with distance management. In addition, Blind Spot Assist and rear cross-traffic warning, as well as LED headlights, are available as options on the new Ioniq plug-in hybrid. The Ioniq plug-in hybrid combines a direct-injection petrol engine with a 45 kW electric motor to provide 77 kW (105 PS).

Genesis has not yet provided any details on the company's other electric vehicles. However, one of them could be the production version of the X Concept, a Gran Turismo-style study that was unveiled in March. On the other hand, the production prospects of the luxury city car, Mint Concept, which will be unveiled in 2019 and will seat two people, are unknown.

With the X Concept, Genesis hinted at a possible electric automobile in the Gran Turismo style. However, as the South Koreans recently revealed at the Auto Shanghai trade show with the Electrified G80, the first full-electric car in the Hyundai Group's premium brand's lineup would be much more conservative.

In the interior of the Electrified G80, Genesis uses technology for total active noise suppression, an electronically adjustable chassis, a solar roof for increased energy efficiency, and various untreated and recycled materials.

Genesis intends to greatly increase its involvement in the field of electromobility in the next years. By 2025, the company plans to produce at least three electric vehicles that were designed from the ground up. In addition to the X Concept, this might include the Mint Concept, which was unveiled two years ago and is a premium city car with a capacity for two people that blends practicality, comfort, and driving pleasure.

Genesis is expected to announce its launch in Europe shortly. The brand's new electric cars will therefore also be available.

Genesis hopes to meet the increasingly stringent emissions standards around the world with its new electric vehicles, such as the GV60 electric car. However, in the electric offensive, concept reasons are equally important. When purchasing a vehicle, customers are more concerned about environmental friendliness, but they are not willing to sacrifice driving fun, dynamics, or style. "Anyone who has driven an electrified vehicle knows that it can undoubtedly inspire excitement," says Manfred Fitzgerald, CEO of Genesis. He believes that the alternative mode of transportation will take off as soon as a longer range and lower costs for electric vehicles can be achieved. @via Genesis.
