The improvements and new ideas that Google showed off at CES 2023 will help Polestar cars. In Polestar 3, Google's new high-resolution maps will be introduced for the first time, and Polestar 2 will get a remote control.
"These changes are a direct result of our close relationship with Google and show how great it is to use the innovative Android Automotive OS in our cars," says Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath.
The Polestar 3 electric car will be the first car to come out with Google's new high-resolution map. This map is very accurate and has detailed and up-to-date road information. The map lets Polestar use the car's sensors and Google's location data, which is precise down to the lane level, to support driver assistance features like Pilot Assist and self-driving cars in the future.
High-resolution maps (HD maps) are very accurate and show details that most other maps don't. The higher level of detail makes it easier to see lane markings, road signs, and other objects on the road. This technology is essential for assisted driving.
"Google's new high-resolution maps build on the company's long history of mapping the world." They were made for the automotive industry in particular. "We're happy to keep working with top car companies like Polestar to make driving safer and more comfortable," says Jrgen Behrens, VP of Geo Automotive at Google.
With the new features added to the remote control, Polestar 2 electric car owners can now control some of the car's functions from devices that work with Google Assistant. You can check the vehicle's status, turn on the compartment's pre-heating, check the battery status, and open the doors. This will be released first in the US, and over time, it will be brought to more markets.
