How the IVECO E-Daily Towed Over 153 Tons and Set a New Guinness World Record

Iveco eDAILY

The IVECO eDAILY is a fully electric commercial vehicle that offers zero emissions, low noise, and high performance. But how does it fare when it comes to towing heavy loads? Well, it can do more than you might think.

In fact, the IVECO eDAILY recently set a new Guinness World Record for the heaviest mass moved by an electric vehicle. The record-breaking feat involved towing a trailer with 45 tons of batteries and a tractor unit with a gross weight of 108.5 tons. The vehicle's total mass and load was 153.6 tons, equivalent to about 20 African elephants.

The challenge took place at the FCA Proving Ground in Balocco, Italy, where the IVECO E-Daily had to cover a distance of 50 meters on a 3% slope. The vehicle was driven by Fabio Buzzi, a professional driver and multiple world champion in powerboat racing.

The IVECO eDAILY completed the task in 22 seconds, reaching a speed of 8 km/h. The vehicle was equipped with a standard 90 kW electric motor and a 198 kWh battery pack. The only modification made to the vehicle was the installation of a fifth wheel to connect the trailer.

The Guinness World Records official adjudicator, Lucia Sinigagliesi, verified the achievement at the event. She said: “This is an incredible record and one that highlights how electric vehicles can also have extraordinary power and strength. Congratulations to IVECO on this remarkable feat.”

The record was part of a campaign called “Challenge the Impossible”, which aims to showcase the capabilities and benefits of electric vehicles in different scenarios. The campaign is supported by IVECO, FPT Industrial, and Nikola Corporation, three companies that are collaborating to develop innovative solutions for sustainable transport.

Thomas Hilse, IVECO Brand President, said: “We are very proud of this record, which demonstrates once again that we are at the forefront of the transition to electric mobility. With the new E-Daily, we offer our customers a complete range of zero-emission vehicles that can meet any transport need in urban and suburban missions.”

The IVECO eDAILY is available in different configurations, including van, chassis cab, and minibus. It can carry payloads of up to 2.3 tons and has a range of up to 340 km on a single charge. It also features advanced connectivity and driver assistance systems, such as remote diagnostics, predictive maintenance, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning.

The IVECO E-Daily is not only a record-breaker but also an award-winner. It was named International Van of the Year 2021 by a jury of 24 journalists from leading European trade publications. It also received the Sustainable Truck of the Year 2021 award in the van category from Vado e Torno magazine.

With its impressive performance, versatility, and efficiency, the IVECO E-Daily is ready to take on any challenge and prove that electric mobility is not only possible but also preferable for commercial transport.
