Opel starts the next chapter in the electrification offensive: The traditional German car brand, which is in the process of electrifying the entire model portfolio, will from 2028 focus on only selling battery-electric cars in Europe. Opel will also enter the world's largest car market, China, as a fully electric car brand. Finally, the legendary Opel Manta will re-emerge as an electric car within the next four years.
"In 2028, Opel will only offer electric cars in Europe," Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller told Stellantis EV Day 2021, which was online. "It clearly shows that we take it seriously when it comes to Opel and electric mobility. The future of the automotive industry is electric - and Opel is part of it. We are on a journey where we reinvent Opel and transform ourselves into a younger, green and global brand. Opel is moving from conservative to cool. We are moving towards a zero net CO 2 future, where CO 2 is the new currency in our industry."
