Euro NCAP gave the latest model of Hyundai's IONIQ brand, the Ioniq 6, the maximum five-star rating for safety. Five stars are the same rating that the Hyundai IONIQ 5 got. The Euro NCAP safety test looks at four things: "Protection of Adults," "Protection of Children," "Protection of Pedestrians," and "Driver Support Systems."
"The fact that the Ioniq 6 followed the Ioniq 5 in getting the five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP shows that Hyundai is not only an authority in future mobility but also that our electric cars are among the safest in Europe," says Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, Vice President of Marketing and Product at Hyundai Motor Europe. "Hyundai is committed to giving customers and all road users a high level of safety and mobility solutions based on technology." The latest Euro NCAP rating shows how well they're doing at reaching this goal.
The Hyundai IONIQ 6 has seven airbags and the next Hyundai SmartSense Advanced Driver Assistance Systems level. This makes sure that you are safe and comfortable on the road. SmartSense has a feature called Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2) that helps you keep the same distance and speed from the car in front of you while driving. It also keeps your electric car in the middle of the lane, even when you turn.
Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), based on navigation, helps the driver keep a safe distance from the cars in front of them and drive at a speed set based on how the driver has learned to drive. The function also uses the navigation system's information about the road to improve automated driving and to change the speed so that driving around curves is safer. Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) helps drivers avoid hitting things in front of their cars by giving them a warning and helping them brake in an emergency.
SmartSense on the Ioniq 6 has better functions for junction turning, junction crossing, lane-changing oncoming, lane-changing side, and evasive steering assist. Other semi-autonomous driving attributes include Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), which adjusts the vehicle's speed to match the current speed limit, and High Beam Assist, which can help turn on and off the high beams at night when vehicles are coming from the opposite direction.
The Hyundai IONIQ 6 has features that help the driver stay focused, such as the Driver Attention Warning (DAW) system. This system monitors the driver's attention while driving, sounds an alarm when signs of not paying attention are found, and suggests a break when needed. At a stop, the driver knows when the car in front of them starts to move.
Some functions also work together to keep cars from hitting each other in different kinds of traffic. When you change lanes, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) helps you avoid crashes from behind. The Bind-Spot View Monitor (BVM) shows video from the blind spot so that a file change can be done safely. In the same way, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance (RCCA) helps drivers avoid crashes with vehicles coming from the left or the top when they are backing up.
The new IONIQ model has a "Safe Exit Warning" feature that ensures people's safety in the back seats (SEW). The alarm sounds when a car comes up from behind at the same time that people are getting out of it. Forward-, side-, and reverse-parking collision-avoidance assist, which helps avoid collisions with pedestrians and other objects when parking or leaving a parking space, is just one of many helpful features that make parking more accessible and safer than ever.
Customers of the IONIQ 6 can take advantage of Hyundai Motor Group's commitment to developing advanced battery technology that makes driving easy and gives the car a long range. With a combined WLTP rating of 13.9 kWh/100 km, the Hyundai IONIQ 6 will be one of the most energy-efficient electric cars on the market. It will also have one of the most extended ranges for all-electric driving, at 614 km on a single charge.
The car's impressive range is made possible by Hyundai Motor Group's Electric-Global Modular Platform design and the Electrified Streamliner, which has a meager wind resistance. E-GMP gives you the best electrical performance, has a super-fast 800 V charging system, and can give you 351 kilometers of range in 15 minutes (10 to 80 percent in 18 minutes). At the same time, it can be charged at 400 volts without needing extra parts or adapters.
Like the Hyundai IONIQ 5, the Hyundai IONIQ 6 has an innovative "Vehicle-to-Load" (V2L) function that lets customers charge other electrical devices. This is ideal for keeping essentials charged when the power goes out, when camping, or when doing other outdoor activities. V2L is turned on by plugging an accessory adapter into the port for charging from the outside. In addition to the power outlet outside, there is a second one under the seat in the back row. This outlet can be used to charge laptops, smartphones, and other devices.
Over-the-air (OTA) software updates will be available for the first time on the Hyundai IONIQ 6. With this technology, drivers can improve their car's electrical systems, autonomous driving, batteries, and more to make driving safer and more comfortable.
