Ford has always been a pioneer in the world of rally racing, from the legendary Escort RS Cosworth to the Focus RS WRC. But now, the Blue Oval is taking its rally heritage to a whole new level with the Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally, the first-ever rally-inspired electric vehicle from Ford.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally is based on the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT, the most powerful version of Ford's electric SUV that can deliver up to 480 horsepower and 634 pound-feet of torque. But unlike the GT, which is designed for on-road performance, the Rally is made to live on tarmac and play in the dirt.
What Makes It a Rally Car?
The Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally features a number of modifications that make it ready for off-road adventures. For starters, it has a raised suspension that adds 20 millimeters of ground clearance over the GT, as well as specially tuned springs, MagneRide shocks, and 385-millimeter front brake discs with red-painted Brembo calipers.
The Rally also sports durable, gloss white 19-inch rally-style alloy wheels inspired by the long history of Ford rally vehicles. The wheels are wrapped in 235/55 R19 Michelin CrossClimate2 tires that provide more sidewall and loose surface grip than the GT's tires. And to protect the underside from rocks and debris, the Rally has shielding for the front and rear motors, as well as protective film on the door cladding and wheel arches. There's also a recovery point built into the front end in case things get too rough.
But perhaps the most distinctive feature of the Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally is its RallySport Drive Mode, which is designed for off-road driving and adapts electronic control systems to allow bigger slides, a linear throttle response for better control, and more aggressive damping for better handling in loose corners. The RallySport Drive Mode also enhances the performance of the Rally in snow and other slick on-road conditions.
How Does It Look?
The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally has a unique appearance that sets it apart from other Mustang Mach-E models. It has a restyled front end with circular fog lights mounted in the panel that poses as a grille, giving it a retro vibe that recalls the classic rally cars of the past. It also has a prominent rear spoiler mounted on the rear hatch, adding some aerodynamic flair to the SUV's profile.
The exterior color of the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally is called Performance Blue, which is exclusive to this model and contrasts nicely with the gloss white wheels and red brake calipers. The interior is also sporty and stylish, featuring Recaro seats with blue stitching, Alcantara inserts, and a carbon fiber dashboard and door panels.
When Can You Get One?
The Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally was revealed for the first time at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2023, where it was driven by former World Rally champion Ott Tänak. It was then shown without camouflage at IAA Mobility in Munich in September 2023, where it attracted a lot of attention from enthusiasts and media alike.
Ford says that the Mustang Mach-E Rally will be available to order in Europe and the United States this fall, with deliveries expected to start in early 2024. The price has not been announced yet, but it will likely be higher than the GT's starting price of $61,795.
