California's electric vehicle start-up Lucid has delivered its first Air in the United States of America for several months. But, as previously reported, the Lucid Air limousine will be delivered to European clients this year. The corporation confirmed this in an interview with Autocar.
According to a Lucid representative, the business plans to begin shipping vehicles to Europe and the Middle East "in June or July" and then extend to China in 2023. The Lucid company did not disclose which nations would receive the autos initially. However, Germany should be the first European market. Additionally, Lucid has its sights set on additional countries in the area, including Austria and Switzerland.
Along with the expansion, Lucid announced that it is working on a more powerful version of the Air, with three electric motors. The new type will include two drive units on the rear axle and one on the front, similar to the existing all-wheel-drive models. According to the manufacturer, this "megawatt rear axle" generates around 980 kW (1332 hp) of driving power. When combined with the front engine, this should produce more than 1150 kW (1600 horsepower).
The brand's anticipated second vehicle, the Lucid Gravity electric luxury SUV, will also include the redesigned rear axle. The source indicates that the premiere will take place in early 2024.
Other new features for the Lucid Air, according to Autocar, include two rear seats that can be folded back, similar to those found on business class airlines. Additionally, an optional air suspension should be available in the future.
The Lucid Air is now available in the United States at a starting price of $77,000 pre-tax. The Grand Touring variant with the most excellent range (830 kilometers per charge) costs 139,000 dollars based on the realistic EPA criteria (approx. 129,700 euros). The Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance model produces 783 kW (1065 hp). The already-sold-out Lucid Air Dream Edition had an 829 kW (1126 horsepower) system.
