Hyundai has unveiled its Ioniq 5 N, a high-performance version of its electric crossover that promises to deliver thrilling driving dynamics and impressive range. The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is the first electric model to join Hyundai's N line of performance-oriented vehicles, which also includes the Veloster N and the Elantra N.

The Ioniq 5 N made its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK, where it showcased its capabilities on the famous hill climb course. The vehicle is expected to go on sale in Europe and other markets in 2024, but Hyundai has not confirmed if it will be available in the US.

What makes the Ioniq 5 N different from the regular Ioniq 5?

The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is based on the same platform as the regular Ioniq 5, which was launched earlier this year as Hyundai's first dedicated electric vehicle. The Ioniq 5 is a spacious and futuristic-looking crossover that offers a range of up to 300 miles on a single charge, depending on the battery and motor configuration.

The Ioniq 5 N takes the Ioniq 5 to the next level by adding more power, torque, and speed. The vehicle features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system that produces a combined output of 577 horsepower and 605 pound-feet of torque. That's a significant boost from the regular Ioniq 5's maximum output of 302 horsepower and 446 pound-feet of torque.

The increased performance translates to faster acceleration and higher top speed. The Ioniq 5 N can sprint from zero to 62 mph in just 3.5 seconds, making it one of the quickest electric crossovers on the market. For comparison, the Tesla Model Y Performance can do the same in 3.3 seconds, while the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo can do it in 3.1 seconds. The top speed of the Ioniq 5 N is electronically limited to 161 mph, which is higher than the regular Ioniq 5's top speed of 115 mph.

The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N also features a number of enhancements to improve its handling, stability, and braking. The vehicle has a lower center of gravity, a stiffer suspension, a larger rear spoiler, and an electronic limited-slip differential. It also has larger brakes with red calipers and specially designed 20-inch wheels with high-performance tires.

How does the Ioniq 5 N look and feel?

The Ioniq 5 N electric car has a distinctive and sporty appearance that sets it apart from the regular Ioniq 5. The vehicle has a more aggressive front bumper with larger air intakes, a black grille with an N logo, and LED headlights with a unique pattern. The side profile features black mirror caps, side skirts, wheel arches, and an N badge on the front fender. The rear end has a dual exhaust system, a diffuser, and a full-width LED taillight.

The interior of the Ioniq 5 N electric sports car is also designed to reflect its performance character. The vehicle has sports seats with N logos and red stitching, a flat-bottomed steering wheel with paddle shifters, and metal pedals. The digital instrument cluster and the infotainment screen have custom modes that display various performance data, such as speed, power, torque, G-force, lap times, and battery status.

The Ioniq 5 N also offers high comfort and convenience for its occupants. The vehicle has a spacious cabin with ample headroom and legroom, thanks to its long wheelbase and flat floor. The vehicle also has a sliding center console that can be moved back and forth to create more space or storage options. The vehicle also has a large panoramic sunroof that lets in natural light and fresh air.

The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is equipped with a range of advanced technologies and features that make driving easier and safer. The vehicle has a head-up display that projects key information onto the windshield, such as speed, navigation, and driver assistance alerts. The vehicle also has wireless charging for smartphones, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and a premium sound system by Bose.

The vehicle also has Hyundai's SmartSense suite of driver assistance systems, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, driver attention warning, high-beam assist, and parking assist.

How much does the Ioniq 5 N cost, and when will it be available?

Hyundai has not announced the official pricing and availability of the Ioniq 5 N yet, but it is expected to be more expensive than the regular Ioniq 5, which starts at around $45,000 in the US. The Ioniq 5 N is likely to compete with other high-performance electric crossovers, such as the Tesla Model Y Performance, the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, and the upcoming Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback.

The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is part of Hyundai's ambitious plan to expand its electric vehicle portfolio and its N line of performance vehicles. The company aims to launch 23 electric models, sell 1 million units by 2025, and introduce more N and N Line models across various segments. The Ioniq 5 N is a testament to Hyundai's commitment to delivering electrifying driving experiences and fun-to-drive vehicles that rival the industry's best.
