DAF has packed IAA Transportation 2026 with hardware that addresses payload, range, uptime, and driver retention. The Dutch truck maker occupies Hall 21 in Hanover from September 15-20, using new axle layouts and battery positions to widen the jobs its trucks can handle.

The electric driveline uses two motors to bridge torque delivery during its three gear changes. That design limits shift interruption under load, which helps traction and driver control. In addition, DAF quotes more than 550 km, or 342 miles, from one charge for its updated electric truck range; a 420 kWh configuration can reach 80% charge in about 45 minutes with suitable DC equipment.
New Axle Layouts Put Payload First
The DAF IAA 2026 innovations focus heavily on chassis geometry. Specifically, the factory-built 10x4 gives XD and XF buyers a five-axle answer for high-mass construction jobs, while new low-deck variants create more vertical room for vehicle carriers.

By comparison, a basic axle-count increase would add capacity but penalize steering and tire wear. DAF counters that risk with two steered front axles plus a liftable, steered rear axle. The layout distributes mass across five axles while letting operators lift the trailing axle when conditions permit.
Battery Placement Turns Weight Into Revenue
DAF removes the under-cab battery from its new layout and moves up to four packs farther rearward. The change reduces front-axle load by roughly 700 kg, or 1,543 pounds, and DAF says it can release up to 2.5 tonnes, or 5,512 pounds, of payload capacity.
Consequently, the relocation attacks a common electric heavy-duty truck constraint: front-axle capacity can run out before the truck reaches its legal total mass. The legal allowance of up to two extra tonnes for an electric truck also lets some XD, XF, XG, and XG+ Electric configurations carry up to 500 kg, or 1,102 pounds, more payload than a comparable diesel truck.
From an expert perspective, bulk, tank, container, and construction operators should scrutinize this change before adding another battery pack. Excess battery capacity carries a direct weight cost on every trip.

The new Single Driver Luxury Package adds a 900 mm/35.4 in Relax Bed and as much as 290 liters/10.2 cubic feet of rear-wall storage. XG and XG+ cabs stretch 330 mm/13.0 in past the XF, offering up to 12.5 cubic meters of space and 2,200 mm/86.6 in of standing height.
