Goodyear shares info about tires for powerful electric cars

Goodyear tires for electric cars

The performance figures for the recently launched electric cars have emphasized that the switch to electricity not only eliminates emissions but also raises the bar when it comes to acceleration and instant performance.

The recent launches of super electric sedans from leading manufacturers such as Audi and Porsche have expanded the list of electric cars that can reach 100 km/h faster than many traditional supercars. For Goodyear, this has presented many exciting new challenges in tire design and development.

Goodyear's challenge is to create tires that can handle the enormous torque of electric vehicles that are strong enough to save the lives of ordinary supercars while providing the comfort, durability and low rolling resistance that are crucial at this end of the market for premium luxury vehicles.

With original equipment for exciting electric super sedans such as the Audi e-tron GT, the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 has already marked itself as a tire that orients itself towards electric vehicles. Four-door sedans such as the RS model of the Audi e-tron GT provide more than 600 hp, moving from 0-100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds. The performance qualities of these cars are obvious and they, therefore, require a tire that can match them.

Goodyear's Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 is an ultra high performance (UHP) tire for sports and performance cars of all sizes. The Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 is already the preferred tire for a range of hot hatchbacks with traditional engines, but recently it has also been chosen by leading manufacturers for their electric supersedans. It required Goodyear to develop special technologies to improve the performance, handling, comfort and range of the premium models of electric supersedans.

As the original equipment, Goodyear Eagle created the F1 Asymmetric 5 with rim sizes ranging from 17 to 21 inches. Half of the dimensions have an A rating for rolling resistance. It helps increase the range, and Goodyear has also developed their RunOnFlat technology as an OEM option to avoid the requirement for spare wheels or tire repair kits. This means that there will be better space for the batteries, which in turn gives a boost to the range and engine power.

When Audi chose Goodyear for the newly launched Audi e-tron GT quattro and RS e-tron GT, Goodyear improved the performance of the tires by limiting the flexibility of the tire tread, achieving precise steering characteristics and better grip.
When Porsche and Tesla have also chosen Goodyear for their high-performance electric sedans, it becomes clear that Goodyear is at the forefront of the development of tires that can utilize engine power and convert it efficiently.

Goodyear developed a racing tire with a unique tire pattern for the PURE ETCR, which had much of the technology in common with the Eagle F1 SuperSport road tire, but was optimized to provide maximum performance on the 500 kW (670 hp) PURE ETCR racing cars. The racing tire has the same design, which improves the driving characteristics in the corners using the solid, closed exterior pattern, while the super-rigid tire side design with High Force Construction technology provides better handling and driving stability. @via Goodyear Tires.
